SPERM DONATION

Sperm Donation & IVF: Helping You Build Your Family

Sperm donation is a highly effective fertility treatment that enables heterosexual couples, same-sex couples, and single women to achieve their dream of parenthood. Through this process, high-quality donor sperm is used in IVF treatments to help individuals and couples conceive a healthy baby.

Who are the donors?

  • Predominantly recruited from university students.
  • Accepted only after rigorous health, genetic, and psychological screening.
  • Tested for exceptional sperm quality and freezing tolerance to maintain effectiveness.
  • Screened for genetic conditions and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Donors can be anonymous, selected based on physical characteristics (such as ethnicity, height, skin tone, and eye color) to closely match the recipient.

Usually, an anonymous sperm donor usage from a Sperm bank is advised for the process.

Who Can Benefit from Sperm Donation?

Sperm donation is a great option for:

Men with male factor infertility, including low sperm count or poor sperm quality.
Couples where the male partner carries a genetic disorder that could be passed to the child.
Same-sex female couples looking to conceive.
Single women who wish to become mothers.

Once a suitable donor is chosen, the female partner typically undergoes IVF with ICSI to maximize fertilization success.

How Does the Sperm Donation Process Work?

The IVF process with sperm donation follows the same steps as traditional IVF:

Donor Selection: Choose between an anonymous donor (from a sperm bank). Selection is based on physical traits, ethnicity, blood type, and personality characteristics to find the best match.

Egg Retrieval & Fertilization: The woman undergoes ovarian stimulation with fertility medications. Once eggs are retrieved, they are fertilized using the donor sperm.

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): A single sperm is injected directly into the egg to increase the chances of successful fertilization.

Embryo Transfer & Pregnancy: The best-quality embryo is transferred to the woman’s uterus, where implantation occurs, leading to pregnancy.
